Crestone Needle ( 14197 ft / 4327 m ) is a graceful yet imposing mountain in Colorado's Sangre de Cristo range. This mountain holds a special place in the heart of many Colorado climbers. It is not unusual among Colorado 14er finishers (those who, like the author, have summited all of the state's mountains with an elevation of 14,000 ft or greater) to have Crestone Needle remembered as their favorite of the high peaks in Colorado. A beautiful but burly mountain, Crestone Needle demands athletic endurance, route-finding abilities and basic climbing skill plus calm nerves to achieve its summit by even the easiest route.
